Once again a huge thanks to all the club members from Wato (Liisa, Alan, Thomas, Norman, Elizabeth, Nigel,  Kieran and Brid plus Transition students from Newtown school for stewarding the event today. Thanks to the OPW for allowing us to use the venue.
Despite some floating controls, there was some excellent performances. In the PJC boys, first starter Robert Pim (Newtown) held off the challenge of Conall Whelan (St Kieran's, Kilkenny) whilst cousin Jacob Pim led a 1 2 3 for Newtown in 2/3 boys. William Wallis was the clear winner on the 1st year boys course.
and the last starter
Last starter, Lorna Aylward from St Angela's Waterford had a convincing win over Aoife Treacy (Newtown) in the PJC girls. Ciara Silby was equally convincing in the 2/3 girls ahead of Paloma Baloda and Alice Byrne. Jordan Pim made it a Pim hat trick of wins in the 1st year girls ahead of Abi Coughlan and Poppy Walsh.

Cork schools at Fota


The Cork County Schools Orienteering Championships, Fota, Cobh on February 3rd. 22 schools took part and over 650 pupils had a great time. The course was dry and very picturesque around the gardens. It was run off very successfully by Liam O' Brien and his C.S.O.A. team. Many thanks for the extra help we got on the day from Ted Lucey, Bobby O' Connor, David O' Donovan and the transition pupils from CBS Midleton. 
 

Convent Mallow dominated the primary girls events again while Bunscoil Chriost Ri had a shock win in the 6th. class boys event to regain the JJ Fennessy Cup. Norah O' Brien and Frank O' Brien did their dad proud with big wins in the 1st. year boys and PJC girls events. The best competition however was in the PJC Boys individual event with a big win for Zach Harrington, Clonakilty over Tim O' Sullivan and Zach O' Sullivan- Hourihan.




South East Schools at Kennedy Park

The Southeast Primary schools championships was held at Kennedy Park by kind permission of the OPW on 12th February. A huge thanks to all the Wato members and pupils from Newtown School, Waterford TY programme who ensured that courses opened at 10 and closed by 1 with 350 enthusiastic participants



A small amount of confusion was created by the 5th class pairs from Waterpark getting the 6th class courses and vice versa.
Congratulations to Fenor NS who won the overall trophy for the first time.

Bushy Park brings Leinster Primary and Secondary leagues to close

Most of the league leaders going into the final event of the Leinster Schools Orienteering League (Post Primary) in Bushy Park, Terenure, Dublin pulled off  good results to win their category
outright.  Whilst Ciara Hogan (Castleknock CC) and Abdallah Balasmeh (St Killians CS Bray) had an excellent run in 1st Yr Girls and 5th/6th Yr Boys (A), respectively, it was their first time win and not enough to take the league win.

Butterfield (Scoil Mhuire BNS Marino) pipping Sam Hawes (Skryne NS) by the tightest margin to take the league title, whilst Ellie Murphy (Skryne NS) put in yet another winning performance, to easily take the 5th Class Girls title.
