What is new about the mixture of 6 training league and training events is the scale and
the diversity of those taking part. Some of the big Secondary schools
like the Ursuline and Newtown in Waterford plus St Marys Midelton, CBS
Midleton, Midleton College and Clonakility and Colaiste Chroist Ri from
Cork plus St Killians from Bray have not showed their strength this
year yet, partly due to adverse weather conditions and perhaps to the
increased difficulty of taking teams out of school.
This has been offset by many new schools taking part which is
encouraging.
This term, 15 Secondary schools and 30 primary schools have
taken part in the 6 events (Waterford, Kilkenny, Dublin 2, Cork 2). 1st year: 186; 2nd/3rd year : 118; Post Junior Certificate : 412
(mostly Transition Years) + 23 miscellaneous. Total Secondary: 739
5th class: 479; 6th class: 509+ mixed 5th/6th: 267 (some of whom ran at a 2nd event). Total Primary = 855
Thanks to all the people who have made this possible. Club members, your ongoing support is vital in running the events.
It is promising to see the efforts being made by the MOA to run
junior training sessions in parallel with Irish Junior squad sessions.
Thanks to Danny O’Hare for initiating the first one in Waterford last
weekend. We look forward to encouraging even more to the next one in
Kerry.
