Successful Irish Schools Champs

Midleton CBS took all three titles in the boys' categories in the Irish Post Primary Schools Orienteering Championships, which were held in Donadea Forest Park, Co. Kildare, while local girl, Deirdre Ni Riain (Gaelscoil Chill Dara), easily retained her title, finishing over 7 mins clear of her next rival. A big thanks to Mary Healy and all her helpers for organising the event. Thank you to the IOA who presented 2 Perpetual plates for the Senior Boys (Midleton CBS) and Senior Girls (Newtown, Waterford).

Newtown do the BOK trot

Watch out Double O Severn, here come Newtown! Whilst most Irish orienteers were struggling through the Leinster heather, 16 pupils from 5th form at Newtown School, Waterford headed off to the Bristol area to compete in the annual 007 weekend encorporating the BOK trot and the SW Middle Distance Championships. Not knowing what to expect but based on advice from a BOK member, 6 boys and 3 girls did the Green course on day 1 at Stockhill which consisted of 2.9 km and 15 controls. The area proved very technical with lots of small depressions and hillocks yet fast terrain.
